Heather Cole

Hi, I'm Heather, an English lass with a Scottish name who likes to call the whole world her home. I’m actually a rocket scientist, astronaut and trapeze artist, but since my family and friends all think I’m a copywriter, we’ll maybe stick with that for now! You'll often find me curled up in a castle with a weighty historical tome and a glass of rhubarb gin, truly believing that I was a princess in another life. I'm a huge fan of cowboys, jungles and blueberry muffins, but prefer to steer clear of dogs, sun loungers and public transport.

Happy Easter folks! Up to anything exciting this w Happy Easter folks! Up to anything exciting this weekend? We don't usually head into the national park on a bank holiday, but those blue skies were hard to resist! Crummock Water is one of the quieter lakes to explore, and there's a great rugged circular walk (which we did) right around it with stunning views. This secluded bay was our picnic spot! The lake is popular with swimmers too as the shores are unusually shallow. There's ample roadside parking, just get there early to bag the best spots.

Blowing away the cobwebs on a walk around Butterme Blowing away the cobwebs on a walk around Buttermere today. Not even a light zephyr in the air, or ripple on the water. Hardly anyone else about. The only sound was birdsong and a distant tractor. Possibly the best day we've had since the beginning of this flipping pandemic early last year! People frequently tell us we're lucky to live in such a beautiful place, but we feel that we made our own luck. 17 years ago I happily sacrificed a very promising career so we could move up here, something I don't regret for a moment, especially when we're blessed with days like these. Success isn't about money, and how far up the greasy pole you've managed to haul yourself. It's about happiness, because really, that's the only thing that matters. We think we've nailed it.

5 reasons MOROCCO should be top of your list when 5 reasons MOROCCO should be top of your list when international travel is back on the cards:

🕍 ARCHITECTURE - with Arabic, Berber, French and Spanish influences, you won't find buildings as beautiful as those in Morocco anywhere else in the world. Fact!

🌞 WEATHER - even when those of us in northern climes are freezing our butts off or battling the rain, Morocco is usually bathed in sunshine. And not just any sunshine...this is pure, warming, happy African sunshine that reaches beyond your skin and touches your soul.

🙋‍♂️ HUMANITY - genuine hospitality is all part of Moroccan culture, and guests are treated like friends from the moment they step off the plane. Nowhere have we felt more welcome and accepted than in Morocco, and it's the main reason we return again and again.

🥘 FOOD - oh the food. Yes, tagines are incredible, but look beyond the iconic terracotta treats and you'll discover flavours you never even dreamed were possible. Food is your passport to discovering the true heart of Moroccan society - so relish every mouthful.

🏔 LANDSCAPE - snow-capped mountain peaks, hidden Berber villages, wind-sculpted deserts, crumbling kasbahs...sometimes the cliches are what it's all about.

🎈This pic was taken on the off-piste route between Erg Chigaga and Foum Zguid in southern Morocco.

This is the tiny village of Masca in Tenerife. Gor This is the tiny village of Masca in Tenerife. Gorgeous, tropical, remote. We nearly didn't bother coming here...it's one of the popular spots for tourists on coach tours and with the winding mountain roads we thought it would be packed. It wasn't. It was hands down our favourite stop during our visit, and we loved wandering the hillside paths, stopping for chilled drinks in the village and taking in these views.

Snow dusting at Loch Coruisk on Skye. Scotland is Snow dusting at Loch Coruisk on Skye. Scotland is wonderful in winter - no midges, few tourists, and perhaps most surprisingly, a whole lot of colour across the landscape! To reach this hidden loch we took a boat trip on the Misty Isle from Elgol, and after an exhilarating ride where we were joined by several seals, we arrived. This place is remote, wild, and glorious. And highly recommended when you're next able to visit Scotland's most famous island.

So we're midway through January. How're you feelin So we're midway through January. How're you feeling?

With yet another lockdown, Brexit, and a sickness bug that's had me wiped out since new year, 2021 got off to a pretty shite start. Motivation flew out the window long ago, and I'm feeling the urge to start baking again, which would be in no-one's best interests.

But then a dump of snow and a few kind words from a client changed all that.

A couple of days ago we awoke to a world of white, and immediately pulled on our wellies and headed out for an hour of snowballs and sun. It was perfect. Then it was back to warm pastries for breakfast, and an email from one of my favourite clients waxing lyrical about my latest assignment. The warm glow has continued and I've finally got my mojo back. I know it won't last, and that the next few months will be full of ups and downs, but I'm making the most of the here and now. Just believing that good always follows bad keeps me going. That, and chocolate hobnobs.

How do you stay motivated in these crazy times?
