Accessing Secluded Islands and Remote Villages Guide

Travelling means exploring—seeing and experiencing magical and exotic places, encountering different kinds of people and their vibrant cultures, and learning more about yourself. Travel is like nothing else in the world, if you know how to do it right, and even if you don’t (yet), you’ve come to the right place! While seeing majestic cities with buildings that have stood for hundreds of years is, of course, a dream come true, there’s something to be said for the charm of remote, secluded places that are far less well-travelled.

The problem is these places are often more challenging to reach than, say, New York or Paris, with its major airports and sophisticated infrastructure. While there may be no Gallerias or chic restaurants halfway up a mountain or on a tiny island in the middle of the ocean, what these remote and special locations have in spades is natural beauty and their own special charm. The question is, how do you get to enjoy them? Minimal infrastructure and wild natural surroundings may seek to deter you, but with our pro travel tips, you’ll be island hopping and ascending to the highest villages on the tallest peaks in no time at all.

How to reach these wild and remote places

1. Choose Private Air Travel

First and foremost, your mode of transportation will either limit or assist you, depending on your choice. Secluded villages and remote islands are hardly likely to have easy access to major roads and airports, so how does one reach them with minimum fuss? Private jet hire, that’s how! While the larger jet classes require tarred landing strips and a legion of air traffic controllers to land, the smaller or “lighter” classes require only a long enough runway to set down on. Smaller aircraft like light private jets can get you far closer to or even all the way to some of the most remote and exclusive destinations in the world, thanks to their manoeuvrability and size.

Should a small class of private jet still prove too big to get you all the way to your terminal destination, your jet hire company is likely to be able to assist with something that will: a helicopter charter. Thanks to this aircraft’s “set down” landing style, a much smaller area is required, making a helicopter charter the perfect go-between when needed.

2. Work out the Right Entry Point

Should you be flying into a more major city on the way to your remote, secluded escape, choose a smaller hub rather than a capital. While there may be fewer private airports to choose from, most commercial airports do lease space to private airlines, and you will find the airport experience far more agreeable on a smaller scale. There are fewer crowds of tourists moving through locations like these, which reduces congestion and traffic. Choose peace and peace of mind when you travel, every step of the way!

3. Work With Local Vendors

While your long-distance travel and hopping between spread-apart locations has already been taken care of (thank you, private air travel), working with local vendors for day trips that require a boat, a guide, or anything else will save you stress and time and also probably gain you access to “secret” locations.

Locals are the best guides to their own homes and will take the most pride in showing off the beauty of their remote spaces. While large travel companies can assist with services like car rentals and luxury accommodation, smaller local vendors know their own homes best and can show them off to their best possible advantage. Locals will also understand the geography of these destinations and their weather conditions. They will be able to advise you accordingly, as safety is the most critical factor when exploring new, remote, or hard-to-reach places.

4. Travel at The Right Time

Choosing your travel times carefully will ensure you have access to as many destinations as possible while travelling. Each ecosystem has its own weather patterns, so each destination must be thoroughly researched. For example, while Autumn may be the quietest time to visit an island destination and still enjoy some lingering warm days, the mountains may become dangerous or impassable at the same time.

Select your travel times based on the seasons, and you will enjoy the most desirable places at each destination without the crush of summer tourists, with the best possible weather, and with the most relaxing travel experience.

Choose Your Own Adventure

The world is your oyster, if you know how to shuck it! Travelling to remote and secluded destinations doesn’t have to present an issue if you follow the right advice—our advice, that is. All that you have to do is choose where you want to go.
